Hilltop Farm / BYC Swap / Sale, Sat. November 15th, Dunnellon, Fl

A.T. Hagan :

With the caveat that I'm counting poults who haven't hatched yet I just set a bunch of White Midget turkey eggs last night so if I do well with them I'll have some to sell at the swap.

And one for Heather the birthday girl.

Now that they have mostly hatched I figure I'm safe in counting them so I expect I'll be there. And will have two 1-year-old White Midget toms that I don't need for breeding as well.

Three weeks away.
I hope we have as good of a turnout as we had the last time. From the responses we should.

Vicki (Sunshine Silkies) Needs our support and prayers. They have discovered her elderly Dad has cancer in his eye. They find out today if its anywhere else She is asking for BYC's support and prayer LEts get the FLorida people to gather round her and support her, She has posted in the family and friends section. Had a dozen Muscovies hatch yesterday. I'm hoping they'll be blue and white like their dad.
I'll probably sell 8 or 10 of them. Here they are on their first outing.

I'll also have some 3 week old Standard Old English Game of the Wheaten variety.

OEG are the smallest of the Standard sized chickens but they don't eat a whole lot,
especially if you are able to free range them. One of my main reasons for raising OEG
is that the books I bought on raising chickens told me to kill my hens after a year or two
because they're not worth the feed they consume in relation to what they produce after that!
I'm too close to my hens to treat them as disposable.
When I read that OEG hens can keep producing well for a decade, I decided on this breed.
They are also renowned for the flavor of their flesh although I can't bring myself to harvest any yet.

Ra_ ,
I know what you mean. We are thinking of processing some of our birds but I'm to chicken too. A friend of our said he would do it if I went off for a day and he would come up and do the deed. My older girls are 3 yrs old and not producing very well now, so my husband said it's time for them to go to freezer camp.

Please check post #1 for updates and a list of what members are bringing to the Swap and also what they may be looking for. Our local TSC has been handing out flyers for our swap. We should have a very good turnout as we did at the last swap. Also, the swap has been posted on Craigslist and Ocala4Sale and flyers have been posted in other area feed stores. We have had a lot of inquiries from people looking for mostly poultry, anything from chicks to layers. I have been directing them to our swap.
