Himalayan Monal

Also wanted to add it does sound like they CAN do well in trios from Steves experience with them. Maybe there is no better or best way. Did you have problems with any of those eating the eggs Steve? And did you get better results with the pair and/ or trios.More detail please. What put out what in the way of babies and eggs? Also what do all of you feed your chicks when you have them as well? Any imput any of you guys want to share here is great to me as well as more photos.

Hi Tony Was your birds you kept terrible diggers? How about you other guys that have kept em. My only pair wasnt that bad. Granted they dug just nowhere near the point of me thinking they might get out. Also for all. What do you all feed yours? How many people keep more than one breeder pair? I just brought this thread back up for more imput because me and others are wanting to know more. Thanks! Shawn

No they not too bad.No they never seem to try and dig out just seems like their wondering what is in the next inch. They could easily turn their entire pen over in a day.I feed mine gamebird and turkey finish grower and layer pellet in the warm months. In the winter I remove the layer and replace with cracked corn.I have 2 breeder pairs, but only 1 pair seem to produce, the other pair eats theirs before I can get to them.

They don't seem to dig as bad as the Brown and Blue Eared Pheasants. Actually have lilac bushes in the pens. White Eared not much at all also. Raised 19 out of 2 breeder pair, and one of the hens is 20 years old. Fed Mazuri GB Breeder, layer pellet, Waterfowl breeder and fruits in season.

Thats so cool you have a hen that old... let alone still popping out babies and what a bunch of birds to pop out! Kudos and Congrats! Thanks for posting the foods yall use as well. I fed the ones I had gamebird maintainence and layer pellets for the hotter months and a little cracked corn but more of the wild bird seed in the winter. I gave them some unsalted nuts, bananas, cantalope, watermelon. apples slices(without the seeds) and seedless red grapes for treats. When I ate some treats they got some too kinda deal.

Actually lost her mate 2 years ago from West Nile Virus, he was 20 yrs. old also and fertile.

That sucks. Im going to try them again but it will be next fall. Hopefully I dodge that bullet this next go round. What do you start your chicks out on?

Hi Tony
wondering about mountain quail.have had some sold all my breeding stock. looking for 4 hens and 2 males. As far as i know my friend scott obrien is not raising them any more . I live in northern Maine. I also have a pair of impeyans for sale that i purchased from a breeder in california. this is the first spring the hen will lay. I would rather raise mountains than pheasants . I also have snowflake bobwhites. thanks Doug

Hi Doug,
I don't raise any quail now, just pheasants.I know Vito Bucco in Ma.has them, but I don't know if he has any for sale at this time.I could check and see if you'd like? How long have you had the impeyans and do you know their bloodline?
