Yes araucana chickens are very winter hardy, there small pea comb doesnt get frost bite easlie, they also seem to lay well in the winter, they do slow down but dont stop....Well as for getting the lavender araucana, first you will have to wait till eggs or chicks are available and then it will happen probly within the next year or so for sure..,
Chicabee,
The Lavender Araucana is very scarce. The best you'd probably be able to get some split or carrier black birds with one lavender gene next year. I only had 5 chicks this year and they were all tailed and cleaned faced. I gave one Lavender to one nice young girl that lost her only bird this year so she would keep the interest and is planning on showing the ones that come up to the APA standard rumpless bi-lateral tufted from some of the other birds she got from me. These birds are very difficult to breed to standards to meet the requirements of APA. You are lucky to get 2-5 out of 100 birds hatched that are really good for show(personal experience). As far as hobby birds they are a real pleasure. HS

Chicabee19, Yes USA type lavender/Self Blue LF Araucana are rare for sure..Like i said i don't know anybody working on them other than hinkjcpoultry (me & Jody) and Shaffer.
Lavender/Self Blue orptington is another one we are working on, and we are real close to getting many chicks to come very soon....we will share lots of pics when the time comes so others can see whats going on with this project..
However there could be others out there breeding LF Lavender/Self Blue Araucana, but they aren't revealing it to anybody if there are....??
Wildsky..i knew you had more than one..Your blue girl is very nice looking and the tufts are awesome..Like your big rumpless girl also, she looks almost like our deedee...No boys for those araucana ladies
I think that little rumpless monster (moon) is going BROODY!!! She was on a nest all day and this evening almost took my hand off when I went to pet her!
The blue girlie - SKY, lays a lovely light blue egg - I'm getting three eggs a day, so I'm not sure out of the 4 of them who's laying, I know Mook and Sky are - I've seen them in the nest boxes.
