Ok, I was really tired this morning, so I quickly opened up the coop so the girls could free range, then went in the house and fell asleep on the couch LEAVING THE DOOR OPEN. It was a hot day, and would the girls really come in the house? What I thought: Nah. The answer: yup.
I woke to the sound of cluck cluck cluck right next to me. I opened my eyes. Kimberly, my Campine, was perched on the couch, looking at me curiously.

I leap up and looked around. The Rhode Island Reds were investigating the kitchen. My Wyandotte was on the dining room table. The Modern Game banties were in the sink, trying to get water. My Polish was interigating the yoga ball. The Sumatra had cornered the dog. The Silkies were waddling up the stairs. My Old english game banty was eying up the TV, which had been left on. This will be a long, long day....

My ladies raid the kitty dish, too. The Campine even layed an egg in my dad's pants once! (mind, he wan't wearing them at the time!) wish i got some pics, but the camera was nowhere to be seen. I should check the coop, the RIR's can be sneaky sometimes.... must of been hiding the evidence....LOL.

This reminds me of something that happened years ago. Back when our chickens were all free-ranging, we would leave the door open so they could come in if they wanted. There was a new babysitter watching my brother and I, and I was in my bedroom writing something. All the sudden, I heard a scream, and came out in the living room to find the babysitter holding a broom threateningly at one of my red sex links, who was curiously puttering around, paying no mind to the frightened woman with the broom. While my brother and I tried to explain that the chickens were allowed in the house and it was nothing to be alarmed about, she continued trying to herd the chicken out of the house.

My hen flew up on a counter, helped herself to some cat food, and then jumped on the answering machine. She happened to hit a button and a message started playing, so she cocked her head like she was trying to listen to the message, and when it finished she jumped down from the counter and helped herself out the door. Hilarity! That babysitter didn't last long in our household.
