One of the roosters was just hit by a car. We went to the road to get him, he's still alive. Only a spot of blood on his comb. Thought he'd have to be put out of his misery, but he started flapping and kicking. Breathing is labored. We have him in a box out in the rabbit coop. It's dark, quiet, and safe there. He's mostly keeping his eyes closed and breathing with an open beak. Not squawking in pain. Shock maybe? Anyone have experiences like this? He put up some fight when we were going to quickly end him so we want to give him some time, but I'm not sure what to do other than ignore him and cross my fingers.

Keeping him warm and in the dark is good, maybe try giving him some electrolytes to help with the shock?
Hopefully someone with more experience can jump in....

He gave a final kick and flap and passed. Husband is processing him. I'd guess internal injury/fluid build-up somewhere. We're raising them for meat and eggs, but it was too early and a horrible end.
