Hi there! I'm new to backyard chickens. I'm in Virginia. I have 5 lovely ladies, all araucanas that I bought in September as pullets. I just love my girls. Scratching is one of the cutest things. Dunno why it always makes me smile. My girls have not started laying yet. But I am looking forward to eggs!

This is from when I first got them. Been too busy to take any recently. They do have tails.

I stand corrected. They are Easter eggers.

so glad you have joined us.

You have a lovely flock, here's a wish for many eggs to come

My hens are nearly 4 yo and I never tire of watching their antics - and scratching is the cutest of all.

Thank you! I'm wondering when they might start laying. They are already on layer feed and have noticed them "nesting" more outside in the run. They are 4 months old but as I understand they don't usually lay much in winter? Hmmm?

Okay, they are Easter Eggers most likely rather than Araucanas. Many suppliers use the names interchangeably, but they do not show the true Araucana characteristics.

Welcome! I have and enjoy many breeds of chickens and my very favorite are the Easter Eggers. They're sweet, friendly, excellent layers and you can get so many beautifully colored eggs from them.
