Hmmm...Chick breed and gender?

Hmmm. I'll have to do a little research...I'm not perfect at knowing my breeds. But I do agree with you about the leghorns. I have one that looks just like yours

Here's a close up of the two chicks. I heard the black one might be a SLW, but it's 4 weeks so I'm not sure. As you can see, it almost looks like it doesn't have a comb at all! But, *sigh, I do think that EE is a cockerel.

any easier to tell what she is now?

the black one has a couple white feathers on chest, and see the coloring in the feathers on her wings? her feet are a slate color. I keep saying what are these two breeds and my dh just says, chickens! haha!

definitely a boy

I have no idea what type they are. The only chickens I'm good at pinpointing are ones I have or have had.
I don't know about you guys but I got 6 ees from the feed store this year and only one has a beard. They all have the coloring, and greenish legs, but no beards save the one. I'm thinking ees are the pit bull of the chicken world.. just a mutt with a similar shape to them mostly...
Now I know actually ees exist somewhere, just like real pitbulls, but seems they mostly are even more muttley now than they should be. Ya know what I'm saying. It's alright. I just hatched a bunch of salmon faverolle mixes that all have beards, so I won't miss out on bearded chickens, but I'm just noticing that ees don't seem to be held to any breeding standard anymore, I also have never had one that laid a blue egg. Most of mine have laid brown, pea comb, beard and all, had one that laid pretty green eggs, but no blue yet, and I've had maybe 15 or so. But I have no idea what those chick's might be. I agree with your husband. They are chickens. Like most of my chickens. I have many roosters and you never can be sure what is what. Most of my chick's are orpington mixes, as my head rooster is an orpington. I have a couple that are buff orpington barnyard bantam mixes and I'm super curious to see what they turn into. Anyway I'm just rambling on and on but basically saying I have no idea and can't be of any help at all. Usually when even a mixed chick becomes a chicken you can then sometimes figure out the breed or mix of breeds just going off the shape. Chickens usually get their fathers coloring and their mothers shape. But these might be a full bred something or other as well. I'm going to look up black and white mottled chickens and see what that might lead us to.

oops here's the black one
java and ancona both come mottled. Give that a look and see what you think. Although both of those breeds have single combs and the javas have black or yellow skin, while the anconas have yellow, but that's only if they fit the breed standard, and often even purebred birds won't fit the description. And It looks like both your young ones have pea combs, or at least not single combs anyway.

Yeah...I have no idea. I like how the black and white have the same shape, only one is black and one is white.

that's interesting. I didn't know that chickens carry certain traits to their parents! thanks for that info. I know my roo we hatched over winter is a mix. EE dad and splash maran mom. thanks for all your help! i trying to pinpoint as well!
