HOA

We live on 9.5 acres of land in Massachusetts and our HOA says no chickens. We did not know that when we built our house. 7 years later our chickens are being evicted. Does anyone know if there is a way out? Almost 10 acres of land!

So I read an article recently that a veteran was able to register his chickens as "emotional support chickens" after his HOA tried to do the same thing. I would look into that - which may require an attorney regardless. And honestly, can't you say you got rid of the chickens if you have to? How would they know? Maybe you are "chicken-sitting" for a family member? Just some thoughts.

Thank you

First I would verify with your local zoning/building department that your lot is zoned for chickens. If it is, then your best bet is to get involved with your HOA. Go to meetings, be active in any issues that arise, present your case when the time comes, vote on your elected officials as well as any issues that all HOA members can vote on. Good luck. The best way to change things is to work with your HOA and be an active member of your community vs fighting against it.

This is great advice. Unfortunately, that is what we have been trying to do and the busy body control freaks are not open to chSnge.
