Why would they care? Oh I don't know. They might burn the op's house down or something like that. You never know what will happen when dealing with nut jobs.

You know, there are times in the world when one has to step up and do what is right for all involved, includiing the chickens and children. Encouraging someone to live in fear is counterproductive to say the least. If it were me I would have reported them right away - and I do not care if they know it is me. We have ways to protect our property and ourselves.

Personally; I would call AC. It can be done with out giving your name, and I am sure there are other people who know about this family's hoarding problem - so they may think it was someone else anyway. You can always play dumb if they ask you.

As someone else already pointed out, the poultry are already is worse living conditions than a battery farm - and that is hard to do!

You said the man is not mentally ill, but you also said he brings in animals and stuffs them into cages, that = mentally ill.
I would call each and every time. They need real help but those animals need help immediately.

As much you don't want them mad at you or to get them into to trouble again you need to turn them in. They may very well be in violation already since they have lost animals before due to this same issue. The police and animal control need to be contacted and the animals need to be saved. The situation is a tough one to be in for you, but these people need
professional help. I would be on the phone everyday until the animals were saved and the living conditions were under control.
Please Please please call and save those poor animals. You need to be the voice they do not have.

(They might be druggies and come kill you. If this is what your intuition tells you, then never ignore that still small voice.)
