Hobbitt Hennery updated on page 3

Quote:
You are so right, harps are magical. Even though I have only been playing for 2 years and I am not very good yet, every time I play out in public, people are just entranced. Most have never seen a harp up close before and are as fascinated with the harp itself as they are with the music. Most want to play it and I let them sit down and give it a go. I just love it and hope to have a part time career playing around my town one day. I have had several offers already, but declined as I am not ready yet.

I always thought since I love playing the harp and raising chickens that I should name something The Harp and The Hen. LOL!!! All I would need is a logo with a hen playing a harp. I wonder if they would lay better if I put harp music in the coop? I know it relaxes my dogs. I might have to experiment with that one of these days.

We made some progress yesterday with the Hobbitt Hennery, but hubs got hung up on the hinges. He can never figure out how to install them. So I don't know what he is doing out there. It is about ready to put the hardwire cloth on and the roofing as soon as he figures out his hinge issues. Will post a few more pics after I get home from work. Thanks for all the support with this project. My husband really hates building anything, so this is a major ordeal for him.

A list of thoughts after reading your post:

a big ol mason jar of bourbon is a great start to my projects too!

Do you KNOW how many great ideas are stored within just one quart of Makers Mark?

...harps are magical...

As an upright bass player, I rejoice anytime I see anyone with an instrument that
is harder to transport than mine. Usually I am confined to sneering at organist and
piano players, but harps fit right in there. Is that an Irish harp I see?

...hubs got hung up on the hinges. He can never figure out how to install them.

I was in contract hardware for several decades. Most of the problems encountered on construction
projects with doors are due to installation of the hinges. Tell your husband he is in good company
in that many (most) commercial finish carpenters cannot figure out how to install them either!

By the way: Harp and Hen should only be used as the name for a pub!

Good looking coop!

You are probably quite right. Perhaps I should consider adding some to my iced tea next time I make it. Who would know right? And perhaps my husband wouldn't be so cranky when he is building things then.

Yes, it is an Irish or Celtic harp. It is a 27 string Heartland, which I sold last summer to help finance the purchase of a brand new, custom made 34 string Triplett Celtic II harp, which I just love, and yes it is a pain to transport, but not as bad as my teacher's pedal harp! She got stuck with hers on a staircase last year when we went to play at a funeral. There was a right turn on the stairs and it got wedged in. They eventually got it out and up the steps, but what an ordeal. I think it took her and 3 or 4 guys to get it unstuck and up to stairs to the choir loft. Luckily, I had my little 27 string, 11 lb harp at the time and I was able to tote it right up. The Celtic II is about 25 lbs, but I got a case with wheels for it, so it isn't so bad.

I will tell him. We get into more arguments over hinges than I care to think about. Do they go this way or that way. He seems to always install them backwards somehow. Who knew a simple thing like hinges could be so complicated? Perhaps if he drinks some of my special iced tea he would have an easier time putting the hinges on. Or at least have more fun doing it.

LOL!! I will keep that in mind should I ever open one. Actually, we have thought about it on several occasions and even went to see about a small cafe that was for sale once. We decided it would be too much work though. But you never know. I have my eye on a little place and if it ever goes up for sale, I just might grab it as it would make the cutest little pub. The Harp and the Hen. Great name for a pub.

Good looking coop!

Thanks, just don't look too close at the hinges!

Get someone else to run the pub. Your job is to show up nightly, play the harp for 10 minutes, then sit in a dark corner, test the beer, watch the customers, and sign autographs.
I haven't figured out yet what the chicken should be doing.

Pictures from yesterday and today's progress. If it takes us this long to build a chicken tractor, I am starting to worry how long it will take to build the new coop.

Got the boards for the roof all measured and cut.

Got the tar paper on.

Figured out the hinge issue and got the back door on. Still has to drill the ventilation holes though.

Got the pop door on and the vent covered with hard wire cloth. Front door is on, sort of. Getting new hinges like on the back door tomorrow.

Pop door and ventilation.

I am hoping to trim out the pop door, but don't know if hubby will go for that. LOL!!

I sure hope so. It is only temporary housing, but I figure it will come in real handy over time for a variety of different things. But I think it is perfect for my 2 month olds!
