Holding your breath for 18 days......(BABY PICS PG 5!)

Oh yikes! Poor poor filly! This is why I do not want intact males on my farm.

With AI you can breed to the stallions of your dreams, so I don't know why anyone keeps a stud around unless they plan to campaign him.....but that's just my opinion.

I have been in the horse breeding business for about 40 years. I stood 3 of my own stallions for the last 10years. 2 have since died of old age and the last one is now on lease in Canada. Of my last herd of 33, I still own the one stallion and one yearling filly. They can be loads of fun , but dangerous too. The stallions are NOT for the weak of heart or pocketbook.

Indeed! I think I will stick to the "easier" way.....AI has its negative aspects also but Oops babies aren't one of them!

Oh and it is now officially day 9!

18 days is when my vet likes to check, since I like my vet.......I shall suffer those extra days!

I'm just impatient, so I like to check as soon as possible.

Also, 18 days is later than I like to check because if there are twins, the embryos are starting to implant and it can be more difficult to pinch one. At 14 days, the embryos are still moving around the uterus and you're more likely to be able to catch them in separate horns to pinch one.

Also, if your mare has an irregular (short) estrous cycle, you can miss the upcoming follicle, especially if you're breeding with shipped semen.

Good luck! I hope she's bred!!

Whew, Day 10!

I just came in from working on a new run for the girls......I hoped some hard work would help me not think about it! Naturally the girls proximity made that impossible! I guess I should have just cleaned the toilets
