Hole in beak of a day old chick

Hi,

One of my new little chicks has a hole in the top of its beak. It seems ok at the moment but does anyone have hints as to how I can help it. Thank you

Yes it does. I’ve not come across something like this before.

I've never heard of it either. Maybe it will be harmless and the little guy will do OK
I will be interested if anyone else has seen it.

Thank you, at the mo he seems ok but it’s only day 1 so not too interested in food and drink yet.

I would Cull if opening is big..Sad but worse on Bird..

It appears to be a small defect. Of course it's hard to know what is on the inside. Perhaps the defect is much bigger on the inside. Depends on your management style. I assume you hatched it from your own flock's eggs, yes? If you want to take a wait and see approach, that would be one option. Or you could cull the chick. No matter what you do, don't let it play in your gene pool!

We had one chick that hatched with a small hole like that. It's still young (6 weeks), but doesn't seem to be affected so far.
