Hole in beak of a day old chick

I actually don't know, I hatched the chicks for my BFF and she has not lost any, that's about as much as I know!

The eggs were purchased so I am assuming the parent flock are good but you never can tell. It’s a lively little thing but I’ll keep an eye on it for the next few days.

That and keep an eye on it for a few weeks. If it gets bigger or seems worse I'd probably cull.

Well it looks like it’s starting to close over. Eating, drinking and pooping well!!

Yes I have, the inside top of the mouth looks absolutely fine, just like the other chicks. I’ve also swabbed the hole and it’s dry. Hopefully it’s closing and will be fine. It’s difficult to tell which chick is which so it’s developing nicely.

Quick update, chick is now 3 weeks old and the hole has completely closed. You can’t tell the difference between them! It’s starting to “pink” up already so thinking it may be a he! The one nearest the camera.
