That's possible.
It will scab and sometimes a small pocket of infection can be trapped under the scab.
Here's what helps: Bathe the chicken in a weak solution of surgical scrub soap (Hibitane - Chlorhexidine). I use a shallow tub, lukewarm water. Splash the water over the wound to soften the scab.
IF there is a loose edge after this, use sterile tweezers to edge off the scab. Don't pull, it needs to come away easily. Then spray the Vetericyn generously on the area. I repeat three times a day.
Of course, the chicken needs to be gently blow-dried after the bath.
