Holistic Euthanasia- Anyone have expirences?

Oh. Yeah. That one does take skill and is VERY personal/hands-on, yes? I mean it's a turkey; too much room for error IMHO.
I don't think I'd count skill as being something needed, only a good tutorial and a set of hands. I've seen a kid that couldn't have been more than 12 or 13 kill her first bird that way, and it went perfect.

Broomstick method would definitely be the only way I'd consider CD on a turkey. Again, I haven't actually done it, though, so certainly look it up first. I agree with you that their tree sized necks might make it impractial.

I think I'd opt for giving him a delicious last meal of blueberries, while he sits peacefully on your lap. And then have an experienced friend or neighbor "do the deed" quickly, limiting fear/pain as much as possible. I've never dispatched any of my birds, and worry about doing it wrong, so I have neighbors who will help me, when the time comes.

I've watched loved ones going thru chemo, (pretty much, throwing chemicals into your body) and it's miserable. This holistic method sounds worse.

I'm sure you're hoping that he'll just pass peacefully in his sleep, and I wish that for you as well....but, I think something faster would be more humane.

We recently had to euthanize our most loved 15 year old cat, and I happen to have these two quotes sitting by the computer, which I find comforting:

* "A good death is not about when or how; it is about knowing love." (author unknown)

* "Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings." (John Gillespie Magee)

Hang in there. We're all thinking of you and your Turkey Son.
