We had a warm spell a couple weeks back. One hen went stupid broody. She's in a coop without any men folk around so I told my wife "Just grab any old egg from the other coop and lets see what happens" We've done this before and either the hen gave up after a couple days or the egg was a dud.

I got home from work today and was met at the door by one VERY excited five year old little girl. She had something she HAD to show me out in the coop.

Well, how cool is that?! You have to be tickled when plans that seem like they could be just ill-fated ones work out!

Based on past experiece I wasn't gonna waste any more than one of my breakfast eggs on a stupid bird that was going to give up in a couple days. If I'd have known she was going to stick it out I'd have put a half a dozen under her. She's going on egg hatching duty from now on.

We don't have a rooster, but I think if one of mine goes broody I'm going to slip some Trader Joes fertilized eggs under her and see what happens. After reading all about the 32 or so another member just hatched I thought my girls might like to try.
