The thought of seeing you do that with the snake brings back images of Indiana Jones and his bull whip!! My opinion, go get a little 410 single shot shotgun and just dispatchem that way. (saves you the chance of getting bit and then the troubles realy begin).

The snake probably got through around your cage door. Thats the only thing I can think of. I'm glad you got rid of the snake and I hope your other babies grow up to be fat and healthy!

Ya there is a little gap between the door and the bottom of the cage. That was the only thing I could think of too. Snakes can flatten themselves out a little too, can't they? But then he couldn't get back out.

I am so sorry for your loss. My mom had trouble with critters and she put a radio in the coop and turned it on when she was not around and left it on all night. It kept the fox and coons away. I don't know if would help with snakes. Would'nt hurt to try.

Snakes can flatten themselves AMAZINGLY well. My boa, who is normally 5 inches in diameter, can slide under 2 inch gaps.
But they can't get out once they've filled their bellies!

OMG, I'm so sorry about your babies. And I can't believe how you killed that snake--wow. Snakes freak me out anyway, much less ones that big who surprise you when you open the coop door. Wow. Good for you--I'm not much for killing things in general, but I was glad to hear your chick predator met a quick end.
