I'm glad I tidied up the coop and run day before yesterday while it was 60* and sunny. Today it is 22*, snow on the ground, and quite breezy. I went out this morning to let the girls out, and guess what, they were having no part of it. I encouraged them on out of the door and they just stood there instead of their usual eating and drinking. Now keep in mind I keep their food and water in the run as it's just easier to take care of the coop and less cluttered without it in there and it encourages them to go out in the mornings. Well I couldn't stand it any longer and after about 5min. I put some feed, lukewarm water, and some scratch in the coop and let them back in. I just didn't have the heart to make them stay outside. They were cold, I was cold and if the coop gets messy, I'll just clean it up. I checked on them about 2hrs later and some were eating, drinking, playing, and sleeping. Now I feel better as do they.
I must admit...I have a lot of admiration of you folks that can tolerate the near zero and sub zero temperatures and actually accomplish anything outside. My bones can't take it anymore.
