My serama has no problems with the cold and my coop is not heated. This is her second winter here and it has been in the negatives.

On the other hand I do have one serama living indoors in a big bird cage, but she was just hatched a week before Thanksgiving and never got the chance to acclimate to the cold. My husband lets her wander the house when he is home

I'm right there with you Sonew123. I was out in the coops from 10AM to 4PM today doing the cleanout in 12* plus wind chill values of -15 here in MA. But it had to be done for the comfort of the chickens. We let the deep litter sit too long since the last time we stirred it and it was all one solid clump. I'm stll thawing out. Boy, what we will do for the love of chickens

It's cold here right now,-15 today lots of fun:D I can't wait until spring as my 4 birds are in my basement right now as I got thekm too late to put them out side, going to have to get 4-6 normal size hens to keep them warm. I can give then a protected run, even cover most of the sides and the coop will be winterized for sure.

Our high today was 36 .. cold for here ..

I sprinkled down some dry hay (we had a storm) .. threw out some food ... and said "bye bye"

brrrrrrrrrrr....

Remember....if your ground is covered with snow, it is amazingly easy to clean out the coop using a tarp rather than a wheelbarrow to ferry the old shavings away. Acts like a toboggan with very little effort. Just drape the tarp over the sill of the door and scoop out the shavings, then pull away.
