Home Grown chickens vs. store bought

Sure. If I can do it all wrong the first time around and still get great chickens out of it, anyone can. I knew nothing of processing chickens when I started and my DH new even less. It is one of those things that seems so overwhelming at first and after a few your like, what was I so worried about. It really does get easier each tiime, after just six my hubby was able to do the dispatching completely on his own. THe important thing is to have a good dispatching method set up before hand. ALthough you will learn as time goes on and add your own touches to the killing station, being well prepared REALLY HELPS!!! If your not fully prepared after the first one you may think it's too hard. That being said, the first one is still a little nerve racking if you are green like we were. Our dispatching area was poorly set up at first and I think that made it so much harder. After we found a good system it's quick and easy, very efficient. Research various dispatching methods on you tube and BYC before starting. The videos on you tube helped me way more than just seeing and reading about it, although that was very helpful too. Hope this helps.

I'm just not sure I could kill them. If I did, not sure I would be able to eat it then. I am curious about eating home grown chickens, I know they are healthier for my family, just don't know if I could do it. Think I'll just do eggs for now.
