Anyone hear of it or use it? We are currently using it with good results, but I was curious if others like it too. They are a sister brand of Purina.

The girl at the feed store mentioned Home Grown Layer feed (50# for $17) when I returned the Purina Layena Plus Omega (40# for $24) as my chickens don't like the pellet form. My birds are 15wks and don't need feed just yet, just checking out what's available. She recommended putting them on Flock Master until they started laying then put them on Home Grown. No idea why such a price difference. Have been researching it, not much luck until I came across your thread.

Have you been using it long? How do your birds like it? What's your experience with it?

Sorry it took so long to reply. We have tried various feeds the last few times due to curiosity. The Home Grown is a good feed. We tried Layena, and the birds did not seem to eat it as much. We are currently offering them Flock Raiser and they are sucking it down! It is a high protein feed without high amounts of calcium, so we must supply oyster shells on the side for them. I am thinking about trying the Home Grown again or I might try a local feed mills mix.

I just got a bag of Flock Raiser that I will be feeding my pullets as soon as they're done with the last of medicated chick feed. I've compared the nutritional value with Layena Omega, it's close just lacking in fiber & calcium. I've been told I could keep them on it when they start laying just add a dish of oyster shell for them. Should be changing over in a week, hope they like it.

If they are like mine, they will love it! After I posted last night, I decided to keep them all on the Flock raiser. I feel the extra protein really benefits them. I also noticed that their poop doesn't smell as bad and it is more solid. There is even less of it. Keep the oyster as a supplement. That is what I do.

Nice to know the poop smells less & more solid. I've been using ACV in their water, read it would be good for them, hoping it would keep their poop firm/formed. Freeze dried mealworms were their favorite treat, my training aid so started raising mealworms. Bought rolled oats for the mealworms & gave the pullets some. They prefer the oats & it costs less, said would help with loose poop. I've noticed when it rains alot here (Hilo, HI) their poop gets softer so I'm thinking it's the "water". Also figured out the soft poop smells while the formed ones don't. Hope the change in feed helps eliminate the soft poop. Yeah, I like the idea of the extra protein too.
