Home made chicken feed and feeding table scraps

Hi so I am a homesteader trying to come off of the organic commercial feed and mix my own.I am wondering if you guys could tell me what you if you do mix your own feed, feed to your chickens,and if I should feed morning and night the homemade mixed feed or just feed it 24/7,and should the feed be feed wet or dry.For feed scraps I would love to know what can be fed and cannot be fed to your chickens.

As for the feed question, i have laying hens and let them have feed 24/7.
As for the treats, any leafy green vegetable, bread , fruits, and a lot more. What i know of things you shouldn't give them are avocado rinds. At least for my chickens they will not touch peppers and anything citrus. here is a great article on this subject:

Mixing your own feed is expensive, time consuming and more often than not you end up using the same ingredients as the feed companies do.
Free range is the best way to reduce feed costs. As far as what a chicken can and cannot eat, there aren't a ton of dangerous foods. Citrus, raw onion, avocado pit and peels.
