Home made quail feed? Does anyone make/mill thier own?

ACTUALLY THAT FORMULA IS SCALED DOWN 50%

ITS REALLY MEANT TO CREATE A TON OF FEED RATHER THAN 1/2 TON

YOU COULD USE 10% OF EVERYTHING AND CREATE 100LBS OR SO OF FEED

THIS IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH FOLKS THAT WANT TO PLAY MAD SCIENTIST IN THEIR BASEMENT TO SAVE A COUPLE OF CENTS ON FEED... IN YOUR CASE AND MANY OTHERS I REALIZE ITS MORE NECESSITY TO GET THE DESIRED PRODUCT DUE TO LOCATIONAL INAVAILABILITY, FOR MOST OF US HERE IN THE STATES I HOPE IT ILLUSTRATES THE FACT THAT IT TRUELY IS MUCH EASIER AND CHEAPER IN THE LONG RUN TO JUST BUY READY-MADE GBS... BY THE TIME YOU ADD IN YOUR LABOR... READY-MADE IS FAR CHEAPER, AND REALLY WHO HAS ALL THE NEEDED EQUIPMENT AND SPACE AND TIME TO DO ALL THIS? I BUY FEED MILL DRECT, I AM FORTUNATE TO HAVE A LOCAL MOM AND POP MILL THAT SELLS A SUPERIOR QUALITY FEED FOR BARGAIN BASEMENT PRICES--- THE CATCH? ITS 1000LB MINIMUM ORDER... NO BIGGIE FOR ME AS I USE ABOUT 400LBS A WEEK GIVE OR TAKE SO I CAN USE THIS MUCH

AND YES THE VITAMIN AND MINERAL PREMIX IS A COMMON ADDITIVE TO MOST ANIMAL FEEDS HERE IN THE US, THE RATIOS MAY CHANGE OR THE AMOUNT PER 1000LBS MAY INCREASE OR DECREASE DEPENDING ON THE FORMULA AND SPECIFIC ANIMAL DESIGNED FOR IT.

NOW THE BIG QUESTION THAT YOU HAVE A BASE FORMULA YOU CAN WORK WITH IS.... CAN YOU EVEN GET ANY OR ALL OF THIS STUFF DOWN THERE? AND THEN LOGISTICS AND ACTUAL ABILITY TO PRODUCE THE PRODUCT COMES IN?

Ask them and see what their vitamin and mineral supplements consist of. Maybe joe and JJ can give you a suggestion from there.

SHE'S IN AUSTRAILIA... MANY PARTS OF THE WORLD DONT DO SPECIALTY FEEDS LIKE HERE IN THE US. SO THEIR CHOICES CAN BE VERY LIMITED AND LEAVE MUCH TO BE DESIRED...

well she had to get the coturnix from some one and they had to feed them something right? so maybe go back to your bird supplier and ask them where they get thier feed.

I just went to the pet shop and the general thing everyone feeds their quails over here is a seed mix called finch mix - all the seeds are tiny. Seems that everyone does the same. I'm just worried about the nutritional side of it. Can I feed them small pieces of fruit?

Hey JJ that's AUSTRALIA to you!!

I feed mine apples and grapes occasionally lettuce and dandelion greens as well if you start feeding them seed regularly you might want to offer them oyster shell or some type of grit I have sand boxes for my quail to "play" in

good stockfeed places normally stock this brand... so now its easy to find local feed places you never knew... and now you can puzzle out which places may sell the goods you want in bags..

I think you mentioned you were in Melbourne/vic ... try looking up these numbers they will probably have other feeds in there for you to choose from and maybe one that's better than the one I mentioned... you may want to try looking up fertiliser places sometimes they have feed.
Avoid fruit shops and pet stores... they put the price of things way up.
