I saw awhile back someone had a water in the coop and it had a bucket on the outside they filled with water. The buckets water replenished the waters water.
Looked and cant find it, Hope someone could help.
thanks
several of us do. i have buckets on top of the coops (which are converted dog kennels) that gravity feed into bell style waterers made by kuhl. the buckets have been plumbed at the bottom with parts from lowes that run into the hose that attaches to the waterer. these waterers have a valve inside that works on the weight of water in it. i found them the cheapest on randall burkey's site recently. but there are lots of homemade ones too.
the waterer comes with a line, all you need is to basically make a bulk- head on the bucket. we have cut out a hole in the side of the bucket and placed a hose bibb that you can turn off and on. coming off the hosebibb
(fancy word for spicket) is a reducing fitting that the line that comes with the bell waterer attaches to. sounds complicated, but its not. i do not use these in winter, but if you would like i can post a pic later.
ok here it is .the black bucket sits on top of the coop and gravity feeds down the black hose to the bell waterer. there is a piece on the inside of the bucket that is actually a piece that holds the pvc coupling that the hosebibb in place, but it's glued in place so i could not get a pic.i use plumbing goop around the pieces just to seal everything or plumbing tape just to seal any leaks.if you want to try this i could get you part numbers but it will be a little bit because i am having a c section thurs.
