Home protection-What do you do?

We have 9 dogs.....that's all the protection we need.

Be very aware of your surroundings. Dogs are great until some one silences them.

Carry on your property ALWAYS. Do not be afraid to ask a stranger to leave immediately.

Have your cell phone charged and ON YOU at all times inside and out.

Keep a large caliber hand gun in your bedroom, loaded; and be sure you know how to use it.

Keep ALL your weapons in a safe locked and unavailable to any intruder even in your main sleeping area (except for your trusty handgun). Try to keep a revolver, not an automatic for your defense. They are easy and they always seem to go "bang" when you pull the trigger.

Watch the TLC show "It takes a Thef" then tell me all you need is dogs.

We do not have tv programming here...what's it about?

I've been here 14 years and haven't had any trouble yet. Most of our dogs are lab mixes, a few have coyote/shep in them. We live in a rural area but my one neighbor who lives across the street from me has an arsenal in his house so if I ever need anything I'm sure he'd be there to help.

They show how easy it is to get by a guard dogs. There at the most a alarm system, nothing more.

Even if you have a well traned atack dog they are easy to get by an besides I'm not putting the safty of the people around me in the hands of a dog. I would rather have a gun an make my on decisions about what is an is not a threat.

We make sure that there are no good places for people to hide to break into our house, so we can see anyone coming for a mile away. Our property if fenced on 3 sides with a solid fence, which obstructs the view of criminals from outside. We have an automatic locking gate, and a security camera pointed at the gate and pasture. We also have driveway alarms/chimes to let us know if someone parks or walks up the driveway. I have a pair of geese who patrol the orchard which is in direct path between pasture and houses. Each house (We were forced to buy this by our insurance company) is equipped with security alarm system and also bonus of having wired smoke detectors which alert the fire department of a fire immediately if we don't shut off the alarm in 1 minute or so. If somebady was invading my house I would set off the panic and the fire alarm. From experience, I know the fire dept. will be at my house in less than 3 minutes. Then we would go into one of our 2 hiding places in the houses. Where my law enforcement bro has the weapons stashed.

Humm...I just read my post. For a peaceful non-predator killing vegetarian I sound kind of paranoid. lol

I know. They aren't foolproof. I just don't think I could have a gun. They scare me. LOL My neighbor tried to show me how to shoot one and the darn thing about knocked me on my behind. So even if I had one here and someone came I think the best line of defense would be my dogs. If not then hmmmm depending on how the kids' have been... I may have to offer them up. LOL;) That would surely scare anyone away.
