I have a 2.5yo ISA brown who I suspect has an infection. She has laid a couple of lash eggs in the past few weeks, along with some soft shell/broken eggs. And then other days no eggs at all (which is not like her at all, she’s a 1-egg-per-day lady and always has been).
She’s otherwise her usual self, strong red comb and wattles, free ranging happily. Only other thing I’ve noticed is she has been flicking her head a lot (like as if she has water on her beak or something). It makes me wonder if maybe there’s mucus or something in her nose but she doesn’t let me get close enough to have a good look at her head.

Vet is not an option for me unfortunately. Has anyone successfully treated lash egg and can offer any advice?

I’m also in Australia and it has recently become hot hot summer here.

Salpingitis (Lash Egg) is inflammation of the Oviduct. This causes a caseous material to accumulate and yes, it can cause infection.

Antibiotics are sometimes given to offer supportive care and hopefully help with infection. Do you have access to any online (Pigeon Supply) or at local feed stores? Tetracyclines or Amoxicillin would be good choices.

The flicking of the head, check to make sure her crop is emptying overnight, check inside her beak for any lesions or canker and also inside her ears for infection or mites. It may be a good idea to give her a once over for lice/mites on the body too.

If she's not laid an egg and should have, and you notice she starts to decline or look droopy, get some Extra Calcium into her asap. Give 300mg Calcium Citrate+D3 once daily for several days to see if she expels lash material or she may be having a hard time with a soft shelled egg.
