Homegrown versus commercial hard boiled eggs and shelling

When you add vinegar to the water and boil fresh eggs how long do they need to be boiled?
 
I have noticed the same thing. It drives me nuts. I boil them, soak them in cold water and still half the egg peels and get mangled when I shell it. Glad to know I am not just imagining it.
