homeless sleeping in coop

Thats still stealing, whether its vegetables or eggs. They are trespassing on your property and breaking into your buildings and taking things that belong to you. I would call the police, file a report, and get them off the propertry, whether its your property or not. They are squatting. There are many organizations that help the homeless, and they can be taken to a shelter and given proper bedding and medical care. I would also, if you can, get motion detection flood lights for your coop so you will be alerted when someone does sneak onto your property. With that and the game camera, you should get the evidence you need.

We had a homeless woman living in our woods 2 years ago. She was in one part of our woods the summer before and was asked to move. This is after she was evicted from some other property a mile down the road and the county park where she was living in the shower house. When she moved from her original choice on our land, we thought she was gone. Nope. She moved over the back ridge and was camped out on the creek. You coudn't see her because there is a very steep cliff but she found a way to get back there. We knew she was crossing our land but thought she was going somewhere else.It wasn't until the following spring (2009) when we were doing some fence repairs that took all day and into the evening did we see her little camp. The next day when we knew she was gone my DH and his son went down to investigate. A few days later they went back and she had left a nice little note saying if they came back she was going to "shoot them dead". Time to call the Sheriff. They had to come out a total of about 6 or 8 times to catch her there, give her an eviction notice, then give her a tresspas notice. Then one Saturday morning about 2 weeks after this all started we had 2 firetrucks, 2 ambulances, 4 sheriff cars and some volunteer firefighters with 2 of those atv's with the dump bed on them all show up. The idiots rode the atvs out into the middle of a mud field and I had to go pull them out with my 4 wheeler. But anyway she ended up resisting arrest and locking herself in her tent so they had to cut her tent open to get her out then they strapped her to a backboard and carried her to where the 4 wheeler was waiting and pulled her the rest of the way up the hill. All the while we had been in contact with her social worker who said they have placed her in every shelter possible and soon as she gets there she starts a fight or steals something so she gets thrown out. Some people, even though the resources are there, won't use them. This couple you have could have approached you early on and asked if they could work for food but they didn't. They want somehting for free. You have to call the police because sometimes its not an overnight solution. Our tresspasser claimed the land was hers because she had been there for 4 or 5 months and honestly believed that she had every right to be there.

Boy, thats a good what would you? My mind and heart are in a pretty good wrestling match.

I would feed them. Beans and rice are cheap and stays with you. Maybe they need a pot. Eggs. Any extra stuff from my garden. Probably would give my last bite. Try to get them help from social services. Shelters, churches etc. There, by the Grace of GOD go I? That said, I would make it perfectly clear that you steal, drink alcohol or do any drugs, I call the law. You stop trying to help yourself, I'M done!

And then there is that serial killer thing..............

.

I would lay in wait, armed. Not alone. But only to talk about the above. Hope every thing works out for your situation. It's a tough one. Your post sure has my mind working though.

Edited to add : And then I read the post above and totally change my mind

I would def call the police, report it. If you didnt so already.
You did the best you can by helping. now tho, breaking in entry etc. etc. thats crossing the line. who knows what else they might do? be safe. and maybe go as far as putting some signs around the property (trespassers etc.)
good luck, sounds like those two need some medical or other kinds of help.

Yeah, you need to protect your homestead. It's a sad situation for those people, but you can't have them picking your vegetables or eating your birds. I can't even imagine what they would be willing to do next. If I were you, I would definitely try and have them removed-especially if they've been living in your storage shed. You just can't have that at all. It could turn real bad real fast.

Good luck to you.

I am sorry for your situation!

I really do feel for the mentally challenged; I used to work with them...they have my heart...
most of the time they really know no better.....
othertimjes; they do and are just dangerous...
you really do have to protect yourself...AND THEM...

laying in wait is exactly what i have in mind, i just have to convience myself that i will keep my mouth shut and stay silent, even if they are breaking into a building, except for imediately quietly calling police. i have lights in my coops, not motion, but one night i seen lights being turned on and off and called police, took them forever to get here, they looked around and was like well there isnt anyone here now. this morning when i reported the sewing room broken into was about the same thing, well there isnt anyone here now so just post no tresspassing signs on every building and that should take care of it, the signs are already posted on the fence and trees. the only way i see that anything is going to be done is if i can just shut up and let them make a "bed" one more time and get the police while they are still here, i mean what is one more broken door or lock if they get removed, they had not been sleeping here until a couple of weeks ago that i know of so should be easier for police to catch them if they are asleep. so i am thinking if i get on top of the house and pull the ladder up there with me and have my phone with me i should be able to see all buildings, be out of reach and call police. sound like a stupid plan?

no..I'd prob do the same thing..just make sure you turn your cell phone on dim/low brightness so it doesnt blazingly light your face up lol...

and bring snacks.. :) and a blanket..its cold here lolol...

They don't seem to accept boundaries. What if they decide they want to stay in your house? Thats my only fear.

if they decide they want to stay in my house then my security system will call the police and i guess while we wait on the police they can decide if we are going to play nice or not.
