Dangit, I waited to long..

Congrats with the new baby and starting your own business. Those two alone would be lots of work + stress. Good luck with everything!

I hope you do take this up again, as I would LOVE to have a sign. Your work is awesome!

Hubby came across some more barnwood and was able to bring home some nice, long pieces... looks like we'll be able to do 4-6 signs. This is more than a hundred year old heart pine and is weathered gray.

So, if anyone is still interested, please pm me or post here and we can talk design and fonts

but I think I can get 1 out in a week or week and a half.

If I get you some barn wood to do a sign for me can you do it? There are some people who are selling some barnwood that live close to me and I would love to get some of it.

I'd just box it up and send it to you if that's okay.

Laurie

I'm still interested. We finished our barn - still working on landscaping around it but its done and usable. Its basically my husbands "man cave" so I'd love a sign for it.

TT, If you are dead set on using that particular stuff so it is local to your area or whatever reason, I would be glad to send you dimensions that I would need once we design your sign. However, it would be an additional cost of app. $20 to send it here. That stuff is heavy. And, I can assure you, the wood we have is gorgeous. Also, I don't factor in the cost of the wood in the price of the sign. It is all labor costs that I charge.

Pm me and let me know what you are thinking and how large of a sign you'd like. It may not be that expensive to ship it here.

Hey Julie, for just a small sign that would say "Man Cave" we can look for a great font and make it app. 10" tall x 20" long. That would only run you $35 because it doesn't have any elements I would have to carve, burn, stain and paint. You can check out my byc page and scroll to the bottom of my barnwood farm sign page to see "No Trespassing" signs that I did. We could do a nice calligraphy like that or something more bold. Just Pm me with your thoughts.

I took some pics of the wood so we all know what I am talking about when I say weathered gray, 100+ yr. old wood

Here is a pic of both the front (bottom) and back (top) of the boards

Here is a pic of our entire pile. It may look like a huge lot but you would be suprised at how much you lose when you start cutting out weak and majorly flawed pieces. I will keep minor flaws... I think they only add to the character.. an old square head nail, a small knot, etc. is great stuff! I will even fill old nail holes with old nails that I have stashed away for just that occasion

You can see the uneveness of the edges. All of these boards will get run through the table saw to give me a straight edge in which to frame. The frame is made of a different wood. It is wormy chestnut -a wood that has been extinct in Northern America since, I believe, the 20's because of a blight. A new chestnut tree has been created using our native species (which always get this blight around 10 yrs. of age and die) and an Asian species but will never be actual American chestnut. It is beautiful stuff and is what I make all my frames out of... great contrast. Here is someone selling 2 pieces for $15 on ebay!! http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/Reclaimed-Ex...mber-Wood_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ330337401587

How comfortable are you with incorporating a picture of a Kubota tractor?

And we can call it The Butler Man Cave.

I would do a larger sign.

I love the sign you did w/ the two chickens and the sun. I forget the name on the sign, but could I do two signs. Part of the barn is becoming my new coop. We're enclosing the shed roof side. So I would put the man cave sign over one door and a coop sign over my coop door.

Are you okay with this?

That would be no problem. If it is something that I am not used to drawing, I will print a pic from the internet and look off of that. A Tractor is no problem. If you'd like to post a pic of your tractor, I could use that as well.
