Well, I will throw in a little money saving beauty tip. I was looking for dandruff remedies. Dandruff shampoo can be expensive. And it doesn't work great for me anyway. (I've tried every different kind I have ever seen for sale.)

Anyway, I found a website--might have been about.com that said for dandruff, wash your hair with baking soda and water. I figured it was worth a try and I have been hooked on it since the first time I tried it about a month ago. I haven't used anything else to wash my hair since then.

What the directions said to do was shake the baking soda from the box directly onto your wet hair and work it in. That was really hard for me to do with my long hair, so I poured some into a bottle (an old dish soap bottle or shampoo bottle would work) and mixed it with water first, then just squirted it onto my scalp. The result is the same. I mean, I still have shampoo in my shower, but I will go to the trouble of mixing up the baking soda and water because I like it so much.

The article said to use that and never anything else to wash your hair. It also said that your hair might seem a little dry at first while the natural oils in your own scalp got used to working again (unclogged from all the old shampoo, I guess.) But I didn't not any dryness at all. Give it a shot! Even if you don't have dandruff. It is great.

I've also used the baking soda for washing my body and my face. It's a good exfoliant and makes you feel squeaky clean!

Wow, Cassandra, that's a new one for me! Just baking soda, eh? Well, it makes sense. The object is for the hair and scalp to get clean, and smell good, and baking soda could accomplish that. I guess it's a matter of changing our thinking. We think soap has to go on our heads, but if something else works....... Thanks!!!!

PonderChick, I can see how that would do it, thanks!

Beekissed, now you know we are very curious about those recipes!

I really have a thing about self-sufficiency, especially when the products are nicer because you only put in them what you want in them, and if they save money, well, bonus!

My problem is that after years of making my own recipes, I became allergic to some things and got disgusted about it. So I've been starting over from scratch.

The scrub I make is with salt, but I know sugar can make your skin very soft!

So, what do you say about sharing some of those recipes?

How nice to meet other people who have this interest! Most people I know think it's nuts to make something yourself. Worse, they think it won't work if it doesn't come from the store.

This is something I just thought of, and though it's not making something, if you use it alone, it's great! (I do also use it as a base when making my own products.)

If you want soft skin, and it's especially good for the thinner skin and potential fine line areas, like around the eyes, but really, the whole face, hands, everywhere; try pure cocoa butter!

Of course, you'll smell lightly of chocolate, but is that a bad thing? lol!

It's not the cheapest thing, but lasts a while. Also, it can be a little hard, yet melts at your body temperature, so I have a little plastic nail pusher dealy-bob, and use it to get a little out. From there it melts wonderfully!

Let me look at the label....

It's food grade, which is good, especially if you put it on your lips/use in lip balm.

The front label says: 100% cocoa butter; A natural, all-purpose moisturizer.

The back mentions uses, then says: Contains no fillers, preservatives, additives or artificial colors. No solvents used during extraction. And the company does not test on animals.

It's really great for keep skin supple, moisturized, etc.

I just thought this was the place to mention it.

Baking soda is a great anti-fungal agent and dandruff is caused by fungus. They are using it to treat cancer there days and working really well.
Use a little amond oil instead of body lotion, cost a lot less and works just as well w/o the chemicals.
