Didn't know where to post this so I'll just do it here, LOL

My hubby made a new brooder last night for out 10 chicks and I wanted to brag about it.

The thing is HUGE. He had some "weird" wood hanging out in his workshop and an old closet door so he put them together and tada we have a new brooder. The chicks love it! They have tons of room to run and stretch and it's tall enough now, they can't jump out of it!

It does look nice. I like the way you have the lamps focused at one corner, giving them a chance to find their comfort zone instead of having the brooder the same temperature all over. Looks like they appreciate it too since they are spread out. You will appreciate the extra room soner than you think. They grow awfully fast.

Might I make a couple of suggestions. It really won't be that long before they are able to fly out of the brooder. You might want to make a top, probably a frame with wire or screen, to keep them in. And I would not trust that clamp by itself on the lamps. I had a backup wire on mine so the lamp could not fall into the brooder even if a chick managed to hit it. There have been a few (thankfully just a few) posts on here of those lamps falling and starting fires or burning chicks.

OOOO thanks for the advice. I'll have hubby work on that when he gets home from work! The sides are 31" high and with me clipping their wings I didn't think they'd be able to jump out, crap, am I wrong?
