Wonders if there's a thread about that, or maybe you should start one

Don't need them, chickens are enough for eggs and meat here, have limited space.... and don't want to deal with water mess, especially in winter.@aart why don't you want ducks?
Yeah, saw that, it's brilliant... but heating it was a bust(so far).I was actually asking @WannaBeHillBilly if he set this up for winter watering. https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/almost-self-cleaning-duck-waterer.75269/
I like that idea! As I stated before, here in Fl it really doesn't get cold enough to need a heater, but I like looking at ideas since I'm gonna move somewhere else eventually. Thanks for sharing!View attachment 1996921 View attachment 1996922 here is my winter water solution. I use a bird bath heater in the bottom of that cement mixing tub. It still needs changed frequently but at least they can't splash the water out and get as much poo in it. This works good for the call ducks since they are short. I do the same thing for the Cayuga ducks only for them I just put a couple boards over it with bricks to hold them in place.
I will probably just keep using it during the summer months too. I was using a chicken waterer just for clean drinking water but it broke, and it tends to get mold in it. This is easier to clean.I like that set up @shawluvsbirds. I should try this with my ducks for summer. Like my heated buckets for winter.
Thank you for letting me know! I could always ask my mom if we can use the laundry detergent buckets we currently have after they're used up. I think they're fairly big and sturdy. I agree: where I am, we've gotten maybe 3 days where it got down into the 40s this winter? It was cold enough for a little frost on the roofs the last two days, but now it's back up into the fifties this morning.I'm just west of Atlanta and I've never really needed heated buckets hardly at all. The day time temps usually warm up enough. @Skye'sDucks in Florida you are going to have way less of a chance of freeze than I am. I just use laundry buckets for water. I think it's called Sun detergent from Walmart. The soap is good and the buckets are perfect for my ducks and last a long time, easy to clean too. Those are my preferred waterers.
