Homemade egg candler?

I use a clamp on light, with the clamp and reflector removed. A CFL light bulb and a Tennis Shoe box. Most tennis shoe boxes have a small hole on one end. Perfect size. I use a CFL bulb because they are cooler. Just put the bulb in the box, turn it on, close the box and you are ready! If it isn't bright enough, use a higher wattage bulb.

Good luck!

I used an LED flashlight and a toilet paper tube. Tube morphs to an oval shape with repeated uses. ANy flashlight will do; the stronger the better. Need two well coordinated hands or else you'll have scrambled eggs!

Here is my home made candler, It was made with reused products,

The spotlight is BF for hunting for critters around yard and the tubing part was made from a cardboard roll, I got at work and the top and bottom I cut to fit so it sits on top. So not to fry chicks. I use it for darker eggs such as Marans and Olive Eggers. The spotlight isn't as expensive as one might believe we got it at walmart for about 30$ a couple years ago. I mostly use my cool-light candler I got from Meyer for 16$.

Good idea! I used an LED flashlight, but cupped my hand around the egg so I wouldn't go blind....
