Can you tell us how you made it? I remember eating something like this from my gramma's favorite bakery, but they've long since been out of business. I'd love to do something like this to bring to all the Christmas parties-thanks in advance!

ETA: I've made this bread a few times and it's been delicious every time. Thanks gumpsgirl for an excellent recipe!!

I think I made them too short and so they came out very "fat". Next time I will make them thinner and longer - like french bread. Thanks for a great recipe!!

I let mine raise longer too, and its lighter. The butter is a great idea, going to have to do it tomorrow aft. I need to go to Sam's and get more flour too. How do you all keep your flour if you don't freeze it? Will gallon zip locs work to keep the bugs out? I don't have a freezer right now,

so I worry about keeping my dry goods safe. First time in 30 years I don't have a freezer! I can freeze one or two bags at a time, and I have read where this will kill anything that is in it when we bring it home (we don't have the weevils, they come in the flour is what I have read and been told

) so thought someone might have a brilliant idea! I look for tupperware tight fitting lid containers everywhere I go because they are great for that!)

With a recipe like this, my flour never last long enough to have to seal and put away....I have been to the grocery store 2 times this week, just to buy more King Arthurs Bread Flour to make this bread in various ways. enjoy!

I get my flours and sugars (raw sugar very cheap here)at the Amish store!

Much larger containers and big difference in price. I have one of those large glass cannisters with a lid on it from WalMart that I store my flour in. I make this bread so often that I don't need to freeze it. I can also get big bags of yeast there, too.
