Homemade High Protein Feed

my average price is between $7.50 to $10 a 50#, and if i've got my own corn its less

Well, $10 per 50# bag of 30% protein game bird starter is a great price. That is the only thing I feed my quail.
I'm confused about what the corn is for.

Have you tried purinamills.com? They have a dealer locate script that you type in your zip code and find the nearest dealer. Some may carry it, if not ask if you can special order it.
If you can't, then quailbrain's sugestion sounds good to me.
I'm not not so sure about feeding a ton of bugs to quail, andt JJ seams to think it's a bad idea, so I'm going to go with that.

Purina Mills 30% game bird starter. You've never seen a covey at the feed store trying to wrestle a 50# bag of it into the back of their Prius?
It's ADORABLE!

I don't know what wild coturnix eat, but bobs eat a lot of different things. It's true chicks start out eating mostly "Bugs", but they also eat stuff like ragweed(seeds and leaves), wild grains, seeds etc...

The main reason that I wouldn't feed my birds earth worms is the fear of parasites. I don't even know if worms can vector parasites, but I'm not taking that chance. Mine do great on over the counter feed, so I'm not really interested in mixing my own feed up to save a buck. That's just me, so everyone else can do what they want and don't mind me.

corn goes into the mix, I have this custom made

they will do any amount, but are happier if you do a min. of 400#, I generally get 1000#, when I got the recipe all I had to do was ask for them to create something for me, I just told them what I needed and wanted

Our coop here has a hog feed tht is 45% protein!! I buy cracked corn and/or scratch and mix in some of the hog feed with the corn/scratch and feed in in the afternoons but My chickens get to freerange a lot of days also in a field filled with grass seeds and various tasty critters. They also get stale bread and scraps!!
