homemade incubator birth story with pics.

wow. And here I decided not to build my own bator because it looked too complicated. If I knew about your set up, I wouldn't have a bator in the mail right now. Good job! Just goes to show you don't need fancy stuff or a lot of money to incubate and raise chickens. You are an inspiration.

Wow, how great that such a simple, easy-to-do incubator can be so great!

I was a little leary about trying to do my own, but I'm definitely going to try yours out.

Thanks so much for sharing

The distance from the bottom of the light to the floor of the box was 16 1/2 inches. We just hung it, didn't even measure at the time. We just put it on and measured the temperature with a thermometer. The watt of bulb is 250W it is a red heat lamp. If you notice in my picture we covered the sides of the top of the box. The eggs must be in the shade. Our first attempt we had boiled eggs

Our second attempt, we had 3 that developed but at different stages due to distance from heat lamp. I had 2 rows of eggs on each side the farthest row didn't develop at all. I laid eggs in one row on both sides of lamp if you will and then rotated them around in the line like previously described. Good luck if you try it.
