Homemade Incubator: Help with putting parts together!!! Pics!

Go get this Upper hot water heater thermostate from lowes or home depot for $8.00...

Use double sided 3-m tape or Automotive RTV sealant to secure your thermostate between and just below your heat bulbs.
I have a 60qrt cooler that I used for mine. I use a standard 40watt and an energy saver 28watt-100watt intensity bulb on the thermostate side... The ES bulbs are great for radiant heat, they get very warm but will hardly burn you if touched. Position of thermostate is very important...

This is opposite side.. I use 2, 5 inch pc fans powered by old printer 12volt DC power source. I also use 1 more ES bulb of same wattage over my humidity sponges... OH LOOK! I didn't notice that I had quail hatching this morning till I looked at the pic!

Anymore questions, feel free to emale me!

Thanks everyone! Sadly, 90* F is as high as the thermostat will go.

Would have worked well if it only went higher. And it would have been so easy to use because you just plug it into an outlet, then plug the light in and it automatically regulates the temp.

Does Wal-Mart have any thermostats? We're going there today to get dog food and stuff and might as well look to see if they have anything. I thought I saw some lamp kits there before...?

Thanks again!

Nope. I'm just going to see if wal-mart has a lamp kit and/or a thermostat and if not, I will go to Lowes or something. I've been saving up money from my allowance.

Ohhh and guess what? I suggested to my science teacher that we should hatch chicken eggs in my classroom; and she said that it would be a great idea!

So now once I get the incubator fixed, I can bring some of our own chicken eggs and the incubator into my classroom hopefully.

That would be so fun! I would update you guys and share pics, too! But I would have to have my mom bring me to school with the incubator, since it's so big.

Has anyone ever hatched eggs in their classroom?

Well good luck. If you can get a note or something from your teacher proving you will be doing this as a class project, you just might get Lowe's to contribute the thermostat. Lowe's and probably Home Depot too have budgets for community giving. You'd have to talk to the store manager or assistant manager probably. Shoot, as cheap as the parts are for a do it yourself incubator, they just might contribute everything. I think it would be a great class project. It wouldn't hurt to ask.

You don't need to buy a lamp kit. All you need to do is buy one of those cheap porcelain light sockets and a lamp cord. Then you can screw the porcelain socket into wherever you need it, and they only cost a dollar or two.
