Homemade incubators? Do they work?

:thumbsupIf you make it correctly, you should have no problem! Homemade incubators are easy and affordable! I've had friends make some before, and they hatched great!

here are some good ideas:

Here a link to a video of a cheap incubator that someone made!

Hope this helps!

I am not a fan of home made bators.
here is where the IF comes in.
If it is built properly , it will work.
If you plan on using light bulbs for heat with no thermostat to control the heat, it is really a hit or miss situation..
If you just want to try hatching a few eggs for fun, then go ahead and try light bulbs..
If you want to hatch a serious amount of eggs and are planning on continuing to hatch on and off in the future, then don't build one unless you do it correctly..
ie a dependable heat source controlled with a thermostat. a fan, and some sort of turner so you don't have to turn each egg individually. turning by hand might be adventurous at first, but it gets old very quickly after a batch or two..
If you decide to purchase one, stay away from that cheap plastic one that they claim will do a half dozen eggs. clear dome top so you can view the eggs.
the Hova bator or Little Giant styrofoam ones are good. If you operate them correctly.. they both need some special tweaking other than/in addition to, the directions from the manufacturers.
some people like the Brinsea, I never had one of those, so I cannot comment..
I have read where someone used an electric frying pan successfully ..
I have also read where someone used a light bulb in a cardboard box and burned down their house..
so be careful what ever you decide upon.
good luck......

It is not the type of homemade oven, it is stabilizing perfect conditions. Controlling a consistent accurate temp and controlling humidity. And keeping it consistent for the entire duration.
So what ever design you come up with, quality components will help you achieve your goals no matter what the chassis is constructed from.
