I am wondering if any of you make something like "Flock Block" to keep the chickens entertained in winter?
I have not gotten a "Flock Block" yet because, honestly, it just seems like Cheetos for chickens. I won't let my kids eat that kind of stuff, and have been reluctant to let my chickens. I have mostly given them veggie and fruit scraps from the kitchen, and the occasional leftover spaghetti noodle. But, that is rare.
They HATED the cabbage skewer (big metal bolt with cabbage on it hung from the ceiling of the coop) and just looked at it funny until I put it into the compost pile.
I know with the cold days coming and the forage about to disappear under layers of snow I will need to give them some fun things to do. They HATE mealworms, too. They love the stuff I scoop out of our squash & pumpkins though and run around the yard with the stringy bits in their mouths like they "caught" a worm.
