Homeschooling - SUPPORT GROUP

Pics
Just saying hi. New to chickens, but been homeschooling for 4 years now. The chickens started out as an incubation project through 4-H. We are learning as we go. We are eclectic in our homeschooling. Lots of room for interests, and building the curriculum around that (that's how this whole chicken thing got started). But we aren't quite unschoolers either.

Nice to see chicken/homeschooling families here.

WELCOME! Glad you are joining us! Sounds like you are homeschooling like we are! Feel free to share anything you find that might help us that are still new to homeschooling!

Now for Chickens, I am a little ahead of you on that LOL!

Thanks for the welcome! This board is almost as overwhelming as the homeschool boards! One could get lost for days on this site reading through all the posts!

Been going back through here and book marking the links. Has been a great help getting DD's schedule set for her 8th grade year. She is looking forward to getting started after Labor Day.

Glad we can help..... share anything you think might help others.

My boys are digging into Kahn Academy. It is not only free but they love doing the work and even remember to bring the head set to the library. ( WiFi connection). . . hard to get my oldest OFF it. lol

I even have an account and I"m finding it a bit difficult to navigate; somehow my kids are not having this trouble. . . . .lol

THe kids enjoy the huge scores that add up. I noticed for just opening a section to work on get points, then finishing the sections gets MORE points. THere are little creatures that develop from a tiny colored drop with eyes into creatures with tails, and legs and a background. . . . the kids apparently move onto the next creature as each section is mastered. . . .. . might be more suited to boys than girls but maybe I'm wrong on that.

Hi Hrdfds!! Glad to see you here!!

THat is good to know, thanks DOnna, didnt realize it was Mass only.

Ran into a friend I know from subbing at public school and she shared that a home schooling group meets at her church regularly; seems it is a planning meeting for the parents. . .

We also discussed that kids raised thru the public school system dont learn how to be self learners as too much is fed to the students; we both thought home schooling, with adult support, is far better to create thinking and doing students.

This is too funny!!!! Went to get DD set up for starting her year and realized she had done ALL of the middle school science on Time4Learning!
Had to convert her to high school and she wants to do biology. So she is taking 4 high school classes.
She is starting on Thursday. Figured give her a break after having her wisdom teeth removed today.

I was doing the same thing with my 4 year old and he knows it all.... he really should be ready for 1st grade but he can't read yet so we are going to work on that. My 1st grader is whipping through the older science book we found and he loves it. Not so much for history and math. We are using Timez Attack for math. I bought the $100 license I can install it on 5 computers and each computer can have 5 users too.

I did go to someone in the next county that was selling all her k-5 curricula she had collected (8 kids she home schooled) over 13 years. I got some really nice stuff! All she asked for was a donation. Can't wait to sort through it. Some computer learning games, manipulatives, scales with weights, writing books, MY FAVS the Letter People (remember that) curricula, a Kids Atlas will all kinds of great info like WWI, WWII, Gulf War, Afganistan War (2006), temps, rain fall, specifics by countries, states, down to population,.... I can't even remember everything.
