Homesteaders

I was wondering what I'd do with my pens that I bought once I'm done with chickens. I can use them for this.

Clear panels should be easy enough to make these with.
Ideas like this are why I sit and peruse magazines at the bookstore. If there is more than one article in them then I generally buy them. I really should subscribe. The English magazines, my favorites are more expensive though.

"Missed our "keeping sheep" in the august issue? Down load it at countryliving.co.uk" Not sure if you can get it but it might be worth a shot.

I really do like Jacob sheep, but am too old to start now. Not having young help.

Apple tree question. . I have a ton of apple trees all over my property and I have access to 2 tons more next door. Do yall think it would be worth the effort to hang netting under them so I don't lose all the fruit? Or will I still lose more than I catch? I can a ton of apple sauce and pie filling as well as make apple butter and other apple products. Plus I will have a roadside stand this year and can put them down there for sale.

I am in awe!!

I have 2 apple trees and have a hard time keeping them alive! I am so jealous, I have no idea about the nets. My two tree some years give me total of a dozen apples or so.

Just wanted you to know how jealous I am of you and your trees! I try planting a tree or two a year and they always die.

Oh no don't be jealous. I moved in here 01-01-13 and it was horrible. We had to pile manure and mulch around all our trees every few weeks and lots of pruning and fighting. My garden area alone had 6 truck loads of big stone removed the first year. And every year since I use raised beds. Then again I'm in apple and rock country so I don't have to much problem getting either. Where are you located?

Dont' know enough about apples but if you can use them and need them, then it's worth a shot. You could also google the idea and see what others have done.

and as Raphie said I'm too am jealous. I'd be happy with two trees.

And you think Piles of manure and mulch is a bad thing? I could use a truck load of horse manure easy. Mulch would be great between my raised beds.

I have heard of people hanging sheets under the apple trees to catch windfalls. I don't see why nets wouldn't work the same

I agree with Rancher Hicks, I would give my wife's left arm for a pile of manure and mulch.

I am in north central Minnesota, I fight cedar rust on all apples (or any fruit tree), most turn into leper trees from fungus and weird growths in about 2 years.

I can gather enough this year to make you some apple butter and sauce maybe even some cider. Just let me know. Your not that far away.

Oh no I love manure, mostly because it makes all my plants happy. I get discouraged at the always washing away manure due to rain. This year I'm going to try building boxes around the base of my fruit plants.
