Homesteaders

Just picked up some soil and a new tray. Going to start my tomatoes since they'll take longer. I have some trays from last year and some soil.

Mice got into them so I'm going to need more trays and new soil. I'll just dump the old into the compost pile.

I do need more varieties but haven't ordered them yet.

We have an organic farm that sells tomatoes and I'll buy one or two plants from them, since I only plant one or two of the cherry types. One plant is plenty for the season. They're indeterminate. They just keep on growing.

We have an empty room that I'll use. I have the incu in there now hatching or hoping too. As a rule I don't buy chicks.

Ok soapbox time for me if all I need is an opinion. . Lol

I think the government should back off a bit and let small homesteaders like us group together and hold our own farmers market without all the dumb regulations of a big store. Just the small group I work with could feed a small community if we didn't have to come up with fees and stuff . I have 8 dozen eggs a week, seriously that's a lot for my family. Another family has enough pork to feed a large church group. Beef , fruits, vegetables you name it. One of us grows or raises it. I'm not trying to get rich I just want to not go broke helping those who need it.

Ok I'm finished.

I agree with you, but I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

That would be nice, but not likely to happen unless its a group of friends that understand our perspective.

Well now I donate eggs or sell to friends at church and the money goes to an orphanage we give to in India. I use them as a tip for the barber, the garbage man, the mailman, and the newspaper man.

I don't believe in Karma but I do believe it comes back in some way, even if it makes the recipients feel better and not kick their dog.

I do believe in bartering too.

I don't know about regulations or what they are and all that but NYS is expensive. We all know that.

EX. I'm reading about this new "box" we need for TWC. One site says Kansas City will pay $2.75 a month, another CA says they'll pay $1.50 a month but the letter I got says I'll pay $ 3.25 a month.

I wonder how long it will be before the government controls the airwaves like other countries?

So can I barter for someone to put up an antennae on my house so I can use the old digital box?

Perhaps there are states that don't have the same regulations we can move to.

Still it's something to consider when we vote and pray.

You really should look into each of your state's Sustainable Ag Society (they go by different names in each state, but if you Google Sustainable Ag and your State you should find yours)
They are a group of consumers and small farmers that have the exact concerns you do. They form a board and send out groups to raise awareness and campaign for everything you just talked about. Ours has the attention and support of several of our state senators. But they do need members.
