Homesteaders

Well if the neighbors don't own the cat or not willing to man-up and pay your losses then I say stake it out and shoot it if it is wise to traps. If you don't have a 22 then try to borrow one. Where you live this may not be an option but around here the sound of gunshots are always going off. Usually when someone is pig hunting which is all the time because there is no season and there are so many of them wreaking havoc.

Truck yeah! X2!

Although the picture of the cat isn't super clear, it doesn't look likes its missed many meals. Domestic cats love to play and torture their prey, just for sport, as I'm sure you know. I wish I could "cull" my neighbor's cat that poops in my herb bed! Walk out in the morning air, and the stench is awful! But these houses are so close together. But hopefully I'm moving to my little retirement homestead in a couple weeks. Good luck @duluthralphie !

Can you put some low picket type fencing around it? Interesting enough there are books titled the Urban Homesteader. Lots can be done on little land.

Well heck yeah. We've had three animals with rabies up here of late. A feral, un-taken care of cat can get rabies. What are you supposed to do, put yourself and family at risk? I don't think so.

If I stake it out I will use the 12ga or the .17 just because I like to shoot it and it hits hard for a small caliber.

Rancher-You can also put your herbs on a cookie sheet or pan in the front of your vehicle and let it cook all day on a nice sunny day. We have temps of 100 plus right now, so that is where my basil is going to be sitting for the next day, just because i didn't put it out until later today. Just thought I would add that as a way to not heat up your house, and it doesn't cost a thing to do it.

I have an image of you telling the trooper " really, it's just drying basil"....

That's a good idea.

Something got in and ate my lettuce and is eating my squash leaves. I expect it's that ground hog. I'll have to figure out how to catch that sucker and keep it out of my garden. I've never had this problem before.
