IM GETTING MEAT BUNNIES!!!! Im so excited, I can barely sit still. We got a deer while out hunting, saddest part was when the babies started calling momma. I almost cried but that is a part of hunting that I will have to get used to, I guess. We will be processing her tomorrow, she has hung long enough, so instead of going to my new church I will be going to my old church in the shop. Got majority of Shelby's harness finished so she can start carting with the kids, in my spare time of course. Going to be doing a bunch of research tonight and tomorrow about meat rabbits and housing needed for them vs a holland lop bunny, wish me luck guys.
Dave what if you took the short pieces of pipe off after the 45s or slanted them so the chickens could pull it out as they eat. Far enough to get to it, or is it clogging up before the Tee?
Hey CL,
After thinking about your suggestion I thought that maybe the extensions were limiting the reach of the feed creating a bridge inside that wouldn't allow it to fall. I pulled the extensions and cut about an inch off of them. The extensions are to prevent the birds from tossing and wasting feed. The 1 inch made a huge difference. That little extra allows them to reach far enough to allow the feed to drop....... soooooo simple.

if I remember correctly, Shelby is a lgd that Reach is training for farm chores. What is Shelby? What type of harness and cart do you have. I have a Zebu heifer I'm wanting to train to pull a cart and looking at getting a bull to make a pair. Wanting to make a mini buckboard small enough 1 can pull it but enough room that if I change out the tounges I can hook up 2 and gather firewood, carry an Ice chest, or take kids for a ride.
Wow! We have SO MUCh in common! I'm also an avid crochetter and canner, gardener of food (small scale though), and would LOVE goats some day! I also bake bread goods from scratch, and don't buy much processed foods at all. My husband works outside the home as a lineman, but I stay home to take care of our youngest who will be 3 in Jan. We just brought home our flock a few days ago, consisting of 6 hens and a rooster. I don't think I would consider us big enough scale to be considered homesteaders, but I've always wanted to be! Dreams! and Goals! Not sure if there's a link buried in here for homesteaders but I figured I'd start this one to talk with some of you guys.
We are new to homesteading. We've always had veggie gardens but never on the scale we are undertaking now. It will be about 3/4 or 2/3 of an acre (haven't measured it out yet) in addition to beds all over our property (2 acres total). We are going to have two ducks and 10 chickens total. We were going to get goats but would rather wait until we are fully on a farm setting before that undertaking.
There are three of us (me, DH, and DS who is 2) with a dog, a cat, 5 chicks and two ducks at this point.
We are wanting to be more self sufficient, eliminate our debt, and save money to buy a small farm (farmette as I call it!) I'm getting into canning, I've been knitting/crocheting for years now, and we both work outside the home.
Anyone else into this kind of life? I'd love to eventually have one of leave work and be fulltime on this project!!!
