Homesteaders

I can empathize LG! When I was a kid, I was usually sick most of the winter. I think it was from breathing in dust from ashes and wood smoke. Once I left home, I was fine. I never had asthma fortunately.

I like these....says it all....

very funny.

As you may or may not know, I delivered mail and on one day there was a husky in the doorway to the house, curled up, but being covered in snow. I rang the bell and told the lady of the house that it was cruel to leave the dog out like that. She brought it in. They had a garage if she didn't want the dog in the house imo. A day or two later I asked about the dog and was told it had died.

Point? During the Holocaust some died, some survived. It seems to me that some of those who died would have survived if provided the right care. It wasn't out of necessity that they were treated the way they were, but cruelty. So if it's not necessary to treat animals a certain way and we have the means to treat them with care, why not? God or no god.

Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding. If so I apologize.

Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding. I get there is a difference between animals and humans but kindness should apply to all. If so I apologize.

Why would you want to bring a husky that is lying in the snow inside? It is bred for the cold. With food it will do fine?

The idea of "kindness" is so very subjective to our individual views. When I was a kid we had outdoor barn dogs. My Dad always said while bringing them in might seem kind it is actually cruel. The dog has the fur to stay outside is use to being outside. Bring it into the heated house, it will change what it is use to could cause shedding and make it worse for the dog in the long run.

Because the water is ice cold is no reason to bring a fish out of the water and lie it next to a fire. .....

Done with this it seems to much of the same argument we had the other day as I think about it..Have a great day all.

thank you for your input but we choose to close that discussion to prevent getting the forum shut down. Again thank you for the input.

to each their own.. we were not all taught the same. I have barn cats and dogs. They come in for a few minutes every day or so just to remind me they run the show.

Not sure about you guys, but I am snowed in, it went clear up past my step last night. That might not be alot of some of you, and its not alot normally for me, but I have bald tires and have gotten stuck twice this week, so I am snowed in. Stocked up on soup and spaghetti last night at the store after my son's Christmas concert. Even went to the dreaded place and got him a chicken burger for being such a trooper when mommy got stuck only 20 minutes before we were supposed to be there and still remembering all of his words and for behaving while we were stuck. It is scary for him when things don't go as planned, especially at night since he is scared of the dark. Not sure how many people will show up for the cookie party tomorrow, but i will be baking up a storm for my next fundraiser. They even closed school today, so that is a first for schools in this area as well. But i guess roads are just horrible. Thought i found some meat rabbits for a great price, only to find out they sold last week and they never pulled their ad. But that is what is going on in my world, trip to Les Schwab on saturday, then head to my event and hope it goes over well, we are supposed to have temps on teh single to negative digits. Stay warm out there and if you have any good soup or stew recipes let me know, im down to my last three potatoes, and not sure what to do with them...

homemade tater soup. Hashbrowns and eggs. Baked spuds with broccoli and cheese. Corn and tater chowder. Cheesy mashed potatoes inside a meatloaf.

So I just might have some very spoiled barn critters. I made chicken stock for my cats and fish stock for my chickens. I'm only giving a little at a time so they have some extra yummy throughout the day.
