Homesteaders

I'll have about 420 square feet, which for just one, 20 year old girl, that's more than plenty. Right now I live in a two story 4 bedroom farm house with a big living room, with roommates, but everything I own besides my food, shampoo, and couch, is in my 12 x 15 bedroom and it's super clean in my room with space for a lot more stuff. In the kitchen, because of the way it's set up, there's barely any cabinet space whatsoever, and having roommates cuts my little bit of cabinet space in half. In the bathroom, my soaps are sitting in the shower, and everything else is in one tiny drawer (toothbrush and paste) its a very small bathroom, doesn't even have a tub. Going tiny will be super easy for me because all my stuff will easily fit in my room, I'll just have a couch, tv, and maybe an end table for the living room wich will fit fine, I'll most likely have more cabinet space (yay!) and the bathroom will actually be twice as big, but the electric bill will probably be less than half. Having an old farm house sucks, when we stared having to heat it our electric bill more than doubled, and still, we were sitting in the living room the other day and could see our breath. No thanks.
Plus I don't like having roommates

Looked up bone broth, didn't realize I was already doing it. Pressure cook our older tougher birds, remove the meat and then re-pressure cook the carcass. Broth I set in fridge till next day, skim off the fat on top, rest is like gelatinous jelly till you heat it up. Re-add the meat, makes for the best soup ever.
Look up bone broth and the health benefits, amazing!
I just saved the bones of a deer, with the intent of making bone broth and have just looked it up for the first time myself, didn't realize I'd already been making it in the pressure cooker with chicken bones.
:)
Nice! Venison bone broth sounds delicious, too. :thumbsup

Oh and having to do with bone broth,  I love my bone broth but I have one question.  I have never been able to cook it down enough that the bones crumble.  I typically will cook it in the crock on low for about 24 hours.  What am I doing wrong?
Adding a bit of vinegar can help leach the minerals, but even lengthy cooking probably won't make them crumble. Perhaps pressure cooking would help soften them..@Beer can?

Just found this thread and following along. I tend to be a bit quiet.

I don't have much say on the tiny house thing--- it is appealing though thinking less is more. I know I could definitely do with less here.

One thing to check in to though--- if you have electricity hooked up, they may charge a base rate to keep it active, whether you are using it or not. In that case, I would make sure to use at least that amount so that you are not paying something for nothing. Getting it hooked up for summer use and turned off may be a hassle... I know just switching over for our rental properties can be a nightmare.

I know that when we get new electricity put in at our barn (different meter than our house), there will be a base amount ($15 sounds about right, DH handles the details) that will be charged whether we use electricity or not. If we use $15 worth, no problem, no loss of money. But, if we don't, that will kinda stink.

Check into it before you decide to whether or not to rely on it. May be different where you live.

Once a week, I can probably do.

Lesson #89374837093874 today:

While encouraging your steer to race you as you drive up the driveway (pasture borders the driveway) may be entertaining.... it will backfire on you one day.

That day was today. Sharky vs the UPS truck. Nevermind the electric fence popping' at 7,000 volts.... he ran right through it!

I blame the wind. It has everyone full of it today. I saw my 25 year old horse kick his feet up like he was a young colt this morning!

Sharky sounds like my kind of critter. Who needs a guard dog. I over hearing about aged horses acting young. I care for a 23 year old show stalion. He is full of it.
