well i got some easter eggers

and i might possibly have to get a silkie roo as much as i dont want them

i love that cross

Yes, all of them lay light blue-green or mint green eggs. I recently ordered some true Silkie eggs, and when I showed them to my partner in Chicken Math, he didn't believe they were Silkie eggs at first because all he had seen were the eggs from mine!

Here is one of the mint green eggs next to a light olive egg laid by a BO-X-Ameraucana. The Silkie-X egg would probably be a medium bordering on large egg.

I'm working on a breeding program to create a Silkie who conforms to all APA standards except that they lay a blue or green egg. It will take several years to do it, but there are a few folks interested in getting the pullets who lay blue eggs but for one reason or another won't be part of the breeding program (not having 5 toes or vaulted skulls, etc). Who knows? It might wind up being a pleasurable and profitable sideline.

I envy those that have the time and or patience to do the research and selective breeding to come up with amazing crosses that will breed true. It's a long and tedious process but we may all profit from your time, so I thank you in advance.

I must agree, I honestly do not like silkies either.. Once, I made a 'slip' and stated I HATED them and was given the 'what for' by several people.. BUT it didn't change my mind.. Still do not like them. They do NOT make me have 'warm and fuzzy' feelings, they do NOT make my heart go pitter/patter, in my 'eyes' they are NOT cute...

They are!

I've had 2. I adored my first one, such a sweet baby doll. So when I got this flock,I wanted another. She is also a sweet pet, easy to pick up, will sit with you forever. I've heard them called the Persian Cats of the chicken world.

So for what I wanted in a Silkie, which was a pet, mine fits that need perfectly.

As a kid I thought they were the absolute ugliest chicken in the world. I didn't like them.

But, as an adult I ended up with a few when I purchased a few bantam chicks from Tractor Supply. I can honestly say, they are delicious. LOL

I know that many people think they are pets and they could possibly be but mine were both roosters and MEAN and NASTY. I ended up throwing them into the group that went to the butcher and was surprised they were dark (I didn't know much about them).

I ate them anyway and really, they have a real strong chicken flavor and the soup I made with them had almost a black broth. Weird but good none the less..

I wouldn't want them as a breeder though. I'm like the previous poster. They still don't make my heart go pitter patter... But neither do Chihuahuas.
