Friday I received 2 new hives for new bee packages I have ordered for this spring.

It rained all weekend and was just too cold to be outside.

I set up a place in my house and each morning I assembled boxes and frames for a couple hours with the help of my 4 yr old son.

Today I got the part where they needed to be painted. The sun was hot today that as soon as I painted all the faces on the boxes the first ones were dry and ready for their second coat. It took about 2.5 hours to do all the painting.

I am happy to be finished! Now, I just have to wait for the bees.

Ladies, if you want to try bees, don't wait for your spouse or someone else to do it for it. The assembly is easy. If you can hang a curtain rod you can put together your own bee hives. Don't be intimidated. It was a simple process. Just time consuming. Without a 'helper' and being able to set up outside where things could be done more quickly I think it would have taken most of one or two afternoons to all the work at one shot.

You can try. Most places are booked up and stop shipping bees by late May. I don't have a clue where bees come from in your area. Call your state or local association to contacts for the bee packages.

The hives look like they're smiling!!!

I want some bees. Just haven't been able to get into them lately. Hopefully, I can get some this year or the next. And with the new ag exempt for selling honey, there's much more incentive to get started.

My mom and I just took a beginning bee class in SF a couple weeks ago! Going to join local bee club and participate in one of their work days and attend meetings before we make the leap to our own hives! Buzz buzz!!
