Jasper was woke by a slight whimpering and looked over to Ashera pressing her tiny body against him looking for warmth. She scooted up until she was next to his cheek and fell silent, slipping into the fitful sleep of puppies. Jasper smiled and sighed falling back to sleep.

Amber opened her eyes and looked around the den. She felt herself full of warmth as she saw her family sleeping peacefully. This is what an actual family is like. Not one full of unkindness and thirst for power, she thought. Silently, Amber vowed that her pups would grow up in a kind, loving family, and never have to experience what she'd felt growing up.
