I would like to know who orders from here. would you recommend it???
My friend and i did a split order this past spring from hoovers. he got his choice pick on all of the chicks [except for an australorp i HAD to have] and he just picked the wrong bunch. my chickens are fine. he got 2 roosters [not ordered] an incorrectly combed silver wyandotte, and one of his chicks LOST THE TOP PART OF IT'S BEAK!!! then it got eaten by his dog. :[

Sorry to them, but i am NOT ordering from there anymore.

I used to get cases of Cornish Cross hatching eggs from them back when I was in high school. They were very friendly and helpful. Losing the top part of the beak I think would not likely be from the hatcheries fault.

Sexing chicks is not an exact technique. The rate of accuracy is 90%, so you might order a 100 pullets and get a pullets or you can order 25 pullets and get 2 roosters. You have 90% of probabilities of getting pullets nor 100%. All hatcheries and breeders selling sexed chicks have this information posted in their websites. Wyandotte with a wrong comb happens frequently in hatchery chicks, not uncommon. You are getting pet or utility quality from a hatchery, no high quality birds. Even the colors in hatchery wyandottes are not well define.

My sister and I ordered from them in February of this year. All the chicks where healthy and correctly sexed and we had a order of 50+ chicks! I ordered 10 BSL and 15 production reds. my sister ordered with me: 22 production reds and 3 white leghorns. All of them are laying right now. I thought hoovers costomer service was great and the people where very friendly. Sometimes wyandottes have straight combs, it just happens.
I will buy from them in the future.

I live in California and bought 25 chicks from Hoover's last week. They arrived the day after the ship out date. Out of the 27 that they sent only 1 died (two days later). They even color-marked the chicks and included a page explaining which chick is what color so you can identify the different breeds! Really great hatchery and will definitely purchase from them again!
